There’s much controversy over the recently-concluded Pacquiao-Bradley Fight in June 9, 2012 wherein the 8-division champion Manny Pacquiao lost to Timothy Bradley. The result stirred great controversy across the world and all over the internet. Famous celebrities expressed their dismay over the result of the fight, claiming that it was Pacman who won and not Bradley. A rematch would likely occur but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum more serious in probing the unfair judgement.
The buzz about the fight even get intensified now that US Senator Harry Reid supports probe over the fight scores. The senator is quoted saying, ”I feel confident there has been nothing untoward but if an investigation makes everyone feel better, do the investigation.” in Las Vegas Journal-Review. WBO will be reviewing the video of the fight as well in response to Arum’s official complain submitted to the Nevada Attorney General’s office.
People are judges on their discretion as far as boxing is concerned. Their judgement is purely based on what they saw and think as a power or weak punch. They are not keen on counting the number of punches thrown by Pacquiao or Bradley; how many of these punches landed and powerful enough to make the opponent become groggy. It is no denying that Bradley wobbles and seemingly groggy when he was hit by Pacquiao during the early rounds. And Pacquiao seems to relax on the later rounds.
The result was controversial because it was not just the Team Pacquiao or Bob Arum who contested the result but the whole world. Even on the eyes of ordinary people watching the fight on their TV set concludes that it was Pacman who clearly won and Bradley’s effort was not enough to tire out the Filipino champ. People from all walks of life contested the result including:
- Former Boxing Champ
- Popular celebrities
Justin Timberlake also took to twitter to blurt out his disappointment saying, “ “I cannot believe what I just saw… Please tell me they read that decision wrong… #Rigged” (@jtimberlake). Even the Americal Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez couldn’t hide his disappointment and tweeted “Congrats to the new winner but I’m still really upset about the results :(“ (JSanchezAI11). And Nick Carter even wants a protest saying, “I think I may never take boxing seriously after that tonight. Mannypacquiao won that fight! Sad day for boxing, I think we should protest!”(@nickcarter).
- Sports writers
Sports writers from different media outfits all over the world may have noticed Pacquiao’s changed game plan but certainly he won the fight over Timothy Bradley. Even Floyd Mayweather Sr. admits that Pacquiao was “robbed”.
The controversial fight was being investigated by the concerned agency by now and boxing fans can only hope that the truth will prevail and justice will be serve. Even if the probe reveals that it was Pacquiao who really won the fight, there is nothing could be done to undo all the shame it has done not only to Pacman but to the Nevada State Athletic Commision and the boxing world.
